Letter from Superintendent Dodgoin

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The health and safety of everyone in our community is a critical concern of the school districts board, administration, and staff. You have likely been following the news regarding the coronavirus, also call COVID-19, and the confirmed cases in the Unites States. Though the virus most often only causes mild illness and the current overall risk is low, it can still be fatal in some cases.

The Collins Career Technical Center is taking the guidance from the Ohio Department of Health (OOH) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) very seriously and following their planning and preparation recommendations. There are a number of preventive measures we all can take to reduce risks of illness and the coronavirus, as recommended by the Ohio Department of Health including:

  • Washing hands for at least 20 seconds, or using hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable.
  • Avoiding contact with your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoiding contact with persons who are ill.
  • Staying home while you are sick (except to visit a health care professional) and avoid contact with others.
  • Covering your nose and mouth with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.
  • Maintaining physical distance (at least three feet) from anyone who is coughing, sneezing, or exhibiting other signs of illness.
  • Getting adequate sleep and eating well-balanced meals to ensure a healthy immune system

The official guidance may change as this situation develops, and we may need to adapt our districts response as well. We will continue to monitor available information from these and other sources, particularly as it applies to school districts, and we encourage you to consider (if age appropriate) reviewing the bullet points above with children in your home.

Additionally, in the event that we experience a prolonged School/District closing, we have a plan in place to deliver instruction through various methods. Those methods will be communicated to the students when the situation arises, if ever. The students will always be our first priority. Your consideration and cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Stephen K. Dodgion
Superintendent
