Parents, Staff, and Students: The Collins Career Technical Center has been notified that a high school student has tested positive for COVID-19. CCTC students and staff have been diligent about wearing proper facial coverings, hand washing, and social distancing. Our facility has been properly sanitized.  We are working with the Lawrence County Health Department to make sure all protocol is being followed and those who have had possible contact are being notified. Out of an abundance of caution, we advise you to monitor your students’ health, follow the CDC guidelines for people who have had close contact, and contact your primary care physician if you develop symptoms. Dear High School Students, Parents, and Staff: This is a reminder that high school labs are scheduled to resume beginning tomorrow (Monday, December 7, 2020).   All high school classes will take place virtually for the remainder of this week (12/1-12/4). Juniors will participate in their virtual learning as usual, and lab instructors will reach out to seniors via email, Google Classroom, or other means to provide instructions on how to participate virtually for their lab assignments for those days. The staff is permitted to conduct virtual learning from their homes; however, the main campus building will be open to them if needed. In-person learning will resume on Monday, December 7th. December 1st & 2nd: Senior Lab/Junior Academics December 3rd & 4th: Senior Academics/Junior Lab Note: This change applies only to high school students and staff. The adult programs will continue with their regular schedule.

One frequent question we receive concerns the notification of individuals who may have been in contact with a student or staff member who has tested positive for COVID-19. To protect the privacy of individuals who have tested positive, we are not permitted to release any information that could publicly identify them. Our COVID return plan follows the specific guidelines created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to operate a school during this time. The CDC defines a contact as: Someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period starting from 2 days before illness onset (or, for asymptomatic patients, 2 days prior to test specimen collection) until the time the patient is isolated. With the Lawrence County Health Department's cooperation, we immediately begin a case investigation and contact tracing once we are made aware that an individual who was in our building has tested positive. The safety of our students and staff is always a priority at Collins Career Technical Center. Unfortunately, Lawrence County has recently seen a rise in COVID-19 cases that have affected several county school districts. We felt this would be a good time to praise our students and staff and remind parents of the steps we have been following to contain the virus’s spread. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank the student’s families for their support and patience with the changes we needed to make to help us maintain a safe environment for our students. Finally, we would like to thank our students and staff. We understand that there are many barriers (slow internet, family obligations, academic struggles) that make it challenging to succeed in a virtual learning environment. Chesapeake schools are asking parents who require bus transportation to CCTC to reach out to Mr. Ridenour at (740) 867-1136 to help them establish special bus routes for our students to pick up students at their home and transport them to CCTC. Please leave a voicemail with the student's name, address, regular bus number, and a contact phone number. You will be contacted once they have determined your bus number and pick-up time. The bus from Chesapeake High School to CCTC will leave each day at 8am and return at 2:20pm.  The information for this post can be found on the Chesapeake, Ohio School Transportation Facebook group.

  Dear Students, Most Lawrence County School Districts have decided to start school on August 31, 2020. The Collins Career Technical Center therefore will also start on the 31st of August. First-year students and one parent or guardian are invited to an open house to speak with staff and see your labs. We ask that you please attend on the day your academy is scheduled and follow Covid-19 guidelines including wearing a mask while in the building. Each meeting will take place from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at our main campus location . Schools throughout the state of Ohio have been working on plans for a safe and responsible back-to-school season. Students attend CCTC to develop skills and earn credentials to make them ready to work out of high school or prepare them for success. These are skills that require hands-on experience and are difficult to achieve in a remote learning environment. This is why we have been working with the Lawrence County Health Department, the Lawrence County JVSD Teacher’s Association, and the county’s seven school districts to create a plan.
